Privacy Policy and Location Access
Privacy Policy needs to be accepted to use the app. Privacy Policy acceptance state is kept on your mobile phone. Once Privacy Policy is accepted application knows it and - in general - does not require accepting it again when launching app one more time.
Privacy Policy has an id. Identifier contains three numbers: major minor and correction. If major or minor number is changed, you will need to accept new version of Privacy Policy. Correction number is updated when for example typo in content was fixed or address details were updated. Corrected Privacy Policy does not require to be accepted again.
Sailor Toolbox mobile application is using location services. Access to these services is required to display current location and calculate accurately current and UTC time. It is advised to grant precise permission while using the app, but you can do it also with approximate setting and only this time. Please remember this request will show up every time launching app if not granted while using the app. If location access is not granted Sailor Toolbox functionality gets limited.
You can easily check current Privacy Policy by going to Privacy Policy screen and clicking on Privacy Policy button. This will require internet connection as Privacy Policy is stored online and accessible via internet.
Anytime you can revoke Privacy Policy approval. Doing so will make you not eligible to use app anymore.
Time and Location
When granted location access main screen displays GPS position as of latitude and longitude. Additionally Maidenhead locator is calculated and presented. Current time both as UTC and local is displayed.
Location once fetched stays unchanged. If you want to get the location updated tap the location, it will read current position in the background and update to screen with accurate details when ready.
Time and date format depends on chosen language.
Localization
Next to English Sailor Toolbox is available in Polish language.
Part of application is strictly in Polish language due to the nature of its content. Mentioned part is Polish Radio Tests: IWC, SRC and LRC.
Language can be changed anytime globe icon at the top of the screen is accessible. Content will reload with appropriate localization. Chosen language is stored in app settings, one the app is launched again it will reuse recently chosen language.
Following description is in Polish for Polish only speaking users.

Alerts
Distress Alerts should follow specific format to make sure message is clear, well understood, contains important details
Sailor Toolbox reminds a number of alerts:
- Distress
- Distress Relay
- Seelonce
- Seelonce Cancel
- Distress Cancel
- Urgency
- Urgency Cancel
- Safety
Requesting assistance usually comes in stressful moment, therefore keeping handy backup notes of alerts can be helpful.
Scales
Beaufort and Petersen scales are two most frequently used ones to identify and share conditions in well understood manner.
Beaufort scale describes wind, while Petersen one - water. As they are related to each other on Petersen tab you will find how they correspond to each other.
With Sailor Toolbox you can easily describe conditions knowing Beaufort or Petersen number, or do the opposite - visually confirm conditions and find appropriate value reflecting them.
Alphabet
Phonetic alphabet is important to spell characters in same manner. Spelling is chosen to easily hear the difference between characters even if hearing conditions are poor.
For each character in different alphabets Sailor Toolbox displays phonetic representation, spelling and Morse code of the character.
With Sailor Toolbox you can find three phonetic alphabets:
- NATO
- Polish
- US
Flags
International maritime signal flags are in use to communicate with other vessels.
With Sailor Toolbox you can easily recognize and learn single flags, as well as messages where a number of flags is used in sequence to pass over message.
Maritime signal flags can be used to passively pass message leaving them hanged them out at your vessel. You can pass message about required assistance and focus on resolving issue. You can pass information about people diving around. You can also ask a question and receive an answer in active manner using signal flags.
Q Code
Q Code is a three-character code invented to quickly share information, either as a statement, question or response.
Q Code is widely used in different areas, Sailor Toolbox comes in handy having Q Code organized and split between:
- Maritime
- Ham Radio
- General
Q Code can be expressed verbally. Another way to use it is with CW, carrier Wave, using Morse code. Keying in three characters in Morse code is much more quicker than keying whole phrase.
Tests
PL Radio
Radio communication on a vessel is a very important skill. There is a number of regulations and restrictions related to radio usage. Different rules affect different regions. Different rules apply to vessels equipped with different hardware.
The three major classes are
- inland waters
- offshore in a range of VHF to the nearest coast station
- offshore out of a range of VHF to the nearest coast station
Each of the class has corresponding certificate required to operate radio
- IWC, Inland Waterways Certificate (this is VHF extended with DSC)
- SRC, Short Range Certificate
- LRC, Long Range Certificate
There are different authorities issuing these certificates. In Poland the authority is the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE - Urząd Komunikacji Elektronicznej).
Office of Electronic Communications publishes questions for candidates to prepare before taking the exam. Sailor Toolbox comes in handy with question bank accessible offline, question after question.
Each certificate has a corresponding test question bank - IWC, SRC and LRC. You can now easily recall and repeat questions important to you in any reasonable moment - taking a ride with a bus, tram, subway, taking a coffee break - with only your smartphone and Sailor Toolbox application installed.
If you are organizing a cruise with a crew eager to learn and gain new skills consider using radio question banks as a valuable source for quizzes with your crew.
PL Radio Tests are targeting the Polish Office of Electronic Communications therefore all 1221 questions are localized in Polish only.
Following description is in Polish for Polish only speaking users.
Komunikacja radiowa na pokładzie jachtu to niezwykle istotna umiejętność. W zależności od obszaru użycia radia obowiązują odmienne przepisy. Odmienne wysposażenie jachtu w sprzęt łączności również narzuca różne ograniczenia.
Możemy wyróżnić trzy podstawowe grupy
- wody śródlądowe
- wody morskie w zasięgu łączności VFH z najbliższą stacją brzegową
- wody morskie poza zasięgiem łączności VHF z najbliższą stacją brzegową
Każdej z grup odpowiada certyfikat umożliwiający korzystanie z adekwatnej łączności radiowej
- IWC, Inland Waterways Certificate (odpowiednik VHF plus DSC)
- SRC, Short Range Certificate
- LRC, Long Range Certificate
Jeśli organizujesz rejs z załogą chcącą podnosić swoje kompetencje możesz wykorzystać pytania do organizacji quizu.
Ponieważ testy są przygotowane szczególnie pod kątem egzaminów radiooperatora w Urzędzie Komunikacji Elektronicznej, wszystkie 1221 pytania są opracowane wyłącznie w języku polskim.
